Dental

Valdosta City Schools provides two dental plan options through Ameritas: the Network Plan and the Freedom Plan. Both plans feature a lifetime deductible, which applies to Type 2 (basic) and Type 3 (major) services but not to orthodontics. While you can receive care from any licensed dentist, using Ameritas Classic PPO network dentists will help you maximize your plan benefits and minimize out-of-pocket expenses. Dependent children are eligible for coverage until age 26.

Premium Information

Important Documents

Our dental insurance provides two plans tailored to fit your needs. The Network Plan offers lower payroll deductions, making it a budget-friendly option. However, to keep your dental care costs manageable, you must use network dentists, as choosing out-of-network providers can result in significantly higher expenses.

For those seeking greater flexibility, the Freedom Plan may be a better fit. While this plan comes with higher premiums, it allows you to access out-of-network care at lower out-of-pocket costs compared to the Network Base Plan. However, services outside the network will still be more expensive than those provided by in-network dentists.

Both plans feature a lifetime deductible per covered person, which applies only to Type 2 (basic) and Type 3 (major) services. The deductible does not apply to orthodontic services.

The district’s dental plans do not allow duplicate coverage for dependents, including children and spouses. Dependents can only be enrolled under one dental plan through the district to ensure streamlined benefits and compliance with plan guidelines.

Refer to the Ameritas benefits summary on the Resources page for complete details regarding frequencies and coverage information.

The Importance of Preventive Dental Care

We encourage all employees to obtain regular oral exams and cleanings for several reasons.  Poor oral health can lead to conditions such as heart attacks and strokes.  Preventive dental visits can help identify conditions like oral cancer, which is treatable when detected early.

Preventive care services as defined by the plan and noted above will be covered 100%.
